The Hotel Manager Slapped a Housekeeper Then the Owner Revealed the Truth
The marble floors of the Grand Monarch Hotel glimmered with the golden glow of the crystal chandeliers in the hallways as guests arrive for the evening.

Executives dumped their suitcases on the floor while others marveled at the beauty of the building and the piano that played melodious tunes.
For Grace Miller, a twenty-six-year-old housekeeper turned into another day at work.
The poor girl dragged her feet from the entrance, cleaning the hallway floors and smiling at the guests that arrived, despite the challenges that marked her life.
Her younger brother Noah’s life depended on her, and every effort she made was for him.
Noah became a ward of Grace after her parent dies in a car accident. Grace, therefore, pays rent, Noah’s school fees, and his medication for asthma.
Her job, therefore, was a great help to her, and she could not risk losing it.
Thus, she headed to the lobby, balancing a silver tray with fresh flowers in her hands.
She had just laid the last of the flowers when suddenly a little girl running behind ran directly in front of her.
Grace quickly jumped aside to avoid bumping the child but bumped the crystal display stand.
CRASH! The expensive vase of crystals lay smashed on the floor of the lobby.
Everyone turned around to see what had happened.
The guests’ receptionists looked surprised as Grace slowly stood up from the floor.
The hotel manager, Charles Whitman, stormed right at her with a flaming face.
“What have you done?” he roared.

Grace stammered uncomfortably as her hands shook. “I’m sorry. It wasn’t intended; I didn’t see the girl.”
SLAP! Grace flinched as Charles slapped her across the face. Some guests gasped in disapproval while one young bellboy looked disappointed. The little girl whose balloon had caused the drama was now sobbing uncontrollably.
Charles pointed at the revolving door and shouted furiously, “You are fired! Get out of my hotel!”
Grace wiped her tears and pleaded, “Please, sir, I need the job; my brother needs me.” Charles paid no attention to her and shouted again
Leave!” She wiped her eyes before slowly getting down on her knees to pick the broken glass pieces. A piece of the sharp glass cut her finger
letting a few drops of blood drop on the floor. Grace continued picking the broken pieces, unaware that the owner of the hotel had arrived.
The revolving door stopped as Ethan Caldwell walked into the lobby. He wore a navy-blue suit, with no bodyguards or assistants
His name was Ethan Caldwell, the owner of the Grand Monarch Hotel, and most staff did not know his face, although they knew his title.
Charles immediately smoothed his tie and smiled as he walked towards Caldwell. “Mr. Caldwell, what a pleasure seeing you here,” he said.
Ethan paid no attention to Charles and instead looked around the lobby. Caldwell’s eyes then landed on Grace’s red cheek as he walked towards her.
“What happened?” he asked.
Grace hesitated as Charles quickly explained
She accidentally broke an antique vase. I had no choice but to fire her

Ethan looked at the broken glass pieces, picked one large piece, and smiled. “I broke this vase this morning when inspecting the renovations
I asked whoever was around not to put another one until I returned.” The receptionist looked surprised as she recalled that Caldwell had indeed been in the hotel that morning.
Ethan turned around and looked at Charles. “So what gives?”
Charles looked as if he had swallowed something nasty
I… I thought you wanted the staff to work under constant fear, so I slapped her.”
Ethan looked around the reception area, where many staff members stood. “Bring me the camera recordings in the lobby
he said firmly. Within minutes, the hotel security had the camera recordings ready on a monitor in the lobby.
Everyone looked at the display screen as the monitor flashed, showing the events that led to the broken vase.
It all started when the little girl ran towards the lobby. Grace protected the child from bumping into the low table but accidentally knocked the vase.
The camera then showed Charles’s face as he smacked Grace across the face.
The guests in the hotel were not impressed. One elderly-looking matron shakes her head and mutters, “She saved that little girl
The child’s mother steps forward and takes her daughter’s hand. “If Grace hadn’t pushed me, my little girl would have been hospitalized
She had indeed thought of the little girl, and the vase was merely an excuse. No one in the hotel wanted to save her from Charles.
Ethan Caldwell walked towards Charles Whitman and softly said How long have you been treating your employees like this? For how many years have you been terrorizing them?
Charles looked sweaty and uncomfortable. “I…” Ethan turned around and looked at the guests. “Who here can testify of Charles’s behavior towards staff members
One young bellboy steps forward and says, “It wasn’t the first time.” Another housemaid added, “He insults everyone daily.” A receptionist remarked
He told me yesterday not to take my lunch break.” The employees kept coming out of the woodwork and testifying against Charles
Their stories embarrassed the poor manager as he stood there, sweating like a pig. His body shook as he faced the angry mob of guests.
Ethan Caldwell looked around the reception area. Not a single person defended Charles, not even his supervisors. Caldwell turned around and said firmly, “Charles Whitman, you are dismissed, effective immediately.
You are also banned from every Caldwell establishment.” Two hotel security officials led Charles away. For the first time in his life, the arrogant manager left the
hotel through the same doors he forced dozens of employees to exit through, but this time, no one was cheering for him or respecting him.

Ethan turned around and looked at Grace. “I’m sorry for what Charles made you go through. No employee should ever be treated that way
Grace shook her head. “I only wanted to do my job.” Caldwell smiled at her. “You did an incredible job; here.” He handed her a new employee badge, but the tag stated Guest Experience Supervisor.
The whole lobby erupted in applause, with guests giving Grace a standing ovation. The little girl runs up to Grace and apologizes. “I’m sorry,” she says.
Grace gets down on her knees and looks at the child. “You have nothing to be sorry about.” Later that night, Ethan paid a visit to Grace’s small apartment to meet Noah.

After hearing his and Grace’s story, he arranged for a scholarship to help pay for Noah’s studies and set aside money to pay for his medication from the hotel’s employee fund.
Months later, Grace stood in the same lobby, greeting new employees. As she walked away, she often reminded them, “We make a living by what we do
but we make a life by how we do it.” And all the staff at the Grand Monarch Hotel remembered those words long after their first day.
Moral of the story
A true leader judges subordinates based on their actions, ensuring they treat others well. You may not be able to control how people do their work, but you can guide them on how to carry themselves when interacting with others.
