The Groom Humiliated His Bride at Their Wedding… Then Her Father Walked In

The wedding reception was supposed to be the happiest night of Avery Collins’ life. The chandeliers glittered in all the ballsrooms as guests laughed and chatted in the beautiful American wedding hall.

Avery stood in the middle of all the commotion, her parents and Ryan’s parents beaming at the sight of the young bride in the wedding dress of her dreams.

Little did they know that the most important part of her life was about to change for the worst.

Ryan had been a grumpy wreck the entire night. Every time Avery tried to talk to his coworkers, he looked annoyed or even angry.

It’s fine, he’s just stressed about the wedding,” Avery told herself, trying to brush the thoughts off. But then, the seemingly innocent conversation finally caught up with him.

“I’m sorry, what?” Avery asked, looking up at Ryan. His face was red with anger and several of the guests had stopped to listen to the couple’s argument. “You embarrassed me tonight.”

“What are you talking about?!” Avery asked, dumbfounded. “I was just trying to be nice to your coworkers!”

“You talked too much and made me look like an idiot.” Ryan crossed his arms over his chest and frowned. You never listen to me Avery’s eyes widened What did you say?

The entire ballroom slowly went silent as murmurs of confusion rippled through the crowd. “You never listen to me!” Ryan repeated.

Avery’s heart pounded in her chest as tears of frustration stung her eyes. “Ryan, please, not here,” she whispered, lowering her voice. “Not in front of everyone.”

But Ryan had no intention of stopping.I will not be embarrassed by you again!” he shouted in her face. Avery winced as she wiped her tears and looked up at Ryan’s angry expression.

She barely registered the looks of disgust on the faces of the guests who had witnessed the outburst. Her entire body shook as Ryan grabbed her by the arm.

Then, he slapped her.

The ballroom fell completely silent as Avery slowly raised her hand to her cheek. Her heart seemed to stop as she looked at Ryan in horror.

The man who was supposed to love and cherish her had just humiliated her in front of all these people.

“Get out of here if you’re going to make a scene,” Ryan told her coldly. Avery looked at him with a mixture of anger and sadness.

But she had little time to respond. The moment the slap had landed on her cheek, someone else had seen it.

Standing at the ballroom’s entrance was Victor Collins, Avery’s father. He had been outside talking to an old family friend when the commotion arose.

The moment he heard Avery’s sobs, he stormed inside and immediately saw his tear-streaked daughter at the center of the ballroom.

His face contorted with rage as he marched towards her Avery he asked, stopping in front of his daughter. She looked up at her father and immediately burst into tears.

Victor didn’t say anything as he looked at Ryan. “Who touched my daughter?” he growled, his voice echoing throughout the ballroom. Ryan forced a grin. “This is between me and my wife.”

“You don’t get to act all charming around me,” Victor replied, his voice as cold as ice. “Not anymore.” The guests fell silent as Victor approached Avery. “You don’t have to stand here and take this.”

Avery wiped her tears and looked up at her father. “I don’t want a scene, Dad.”

“I don’t want a scene either,” Victor replied. He turned to Ryan and narrowed his eyes. “I just want the truth.” Ryan chuckled nervously. “You’re making a big deal out of nothing.”

Am I?” Victor asked. He stormed up to the reception table and grabbed a file that had been laying on it. Ryan’s grin faded as he watched Victor open the file and pull out a few documents.

“What is that?” Avery asked, narrowing her eyes at the papers in her father’s hands. Victor looked at her and sighed. “The documents for the company your husband has been trying to take over.”

Avery looked up at Ryan, her heart pounding in her chest. “What company?” Victor finally explained what had been happening before the wedding.

The company belonged to Avery’s grandfather and was worth millions of dollars. He had transferred it to Avery’s trust before the wedding and Ryan had known about it.

That was one of the reasons he wanted to marry Avery. But it was also the reason Victor wanted to stop him.

“I knew about the company,” Ryan muttered. “That’s not why I married you.”

Victor flipped through the documents in his hand. “This tells a different story altogether.” He turned to the next page and Avery’s eyes nearly popped out of her head.

The documents proved that Ryan had been trying to gain access to the company’s accounts before the wedding.

Avery looked up at Ryan, her tears stopping completely. “Is this true?” There was no response. The entire ballroom had gone deathly quiet as dozens of guests who had seen Avery being slapped looked at Ryan in disgust.

Avery looked over at her father. “Tell me what’s really happening.”

I think we both know what’s happening Victor replied, looking at Ryan. “I’m pretty sure the entire ballroom knows as well.”

Ryan looked at Avery and tried to reach out to her. “Listen to me, Avery.”

“No.” She shook her head You already showed me who you are, Ryan.” Ryan looked at Victor desperately. “I love Avery.”

“If you loved me, you wouldn’t have humiliated me in front of everyone.” Victor gently placed a hand on Avery’s shoulder. “You don’t have to make any decisions tonight.”

Avery looked around the ballroom one last time. All the flowers, the cake, the photos, everything Avery had worked for over the past year suddenly seemed pointless.

But then she realized something. Her marriage may have been pointless, but her life wasn’t. Slowly, Avery got up and took off her wedding ring.

I thought tonight was the beginning of my life with you,” she said, placing the ring on the table. “But it seems it’s the beginning of my life without you.”

Ryan looked at her in shock as Victor took his daughter’s hand. Slowly, the two walked towards the exit as the guests silently watched Avery walk out of the ballroom. Outside, it had begun to rain.

Avery looked up at Victor I’m sorry.

Victor immediately shook his head. “You have nothing to be sorry for.” He pulled his daughter into his chest and squeezed her gently.

You trusted someone and it didn’t make you weak.” Avery looked up at the wet pavement. “It made me realize he didn’t deserve you.”

She glanced back at the ballroom one final time before walking away with her father. Little did she know, the person who walked into her life and saved her may not always be her father. Sometimes, it can be your parents too.

Lesson

Love should never come with the price of humiliation, fear, and disrespect.

Avery finally learned that your marriage can only begin with a ring, a wedding, and an oath in front of hundreds of people. It’s proven by the respect, trust, and dignity between you and your partner.

Never stay silent just because you’re afraid of losing someone. Sometimes walking away from your abuser can be the best thing you can do for yourself.
