She Begged the Mafia Boss to Hide Her Then He Recognized His Mother’s Symbol

It was the middle of the night, and the streets of Manhattan were covered with neon light reflections from passing cars.

Most people were inside restaurants or taxis going back home, and some had already gone to sleep. But not Lena Carter.

Her hair was wet, her clothes damp from the cold, and her heart pounding.

She didn’t know where she was going exactly. She only knew that she had to keep going. Every step, every move towards the city’s heart.

Lena looked over her shoulder and then jumped back in surprise. A black SUV pulled beside her, its passenger door opening,

revealing a tall man with a cold, serious look. His name was Damian Cross, a dangerous and powerful mafia boss with a reputation across the city. His hands were partially covered with tattoos, and he had an intimidating look about him, one that made everyone who knew him keep their distance.

Lena took a step back, her heart pounding in her chest. “Please,” she whispered, almost begging. “Don’t let them find me.”

Damian looked at her for a moment, taking

in the state she was in. He took off his coat and threw it over her trembling shoulders. “Who are you running from?” he asked.

Lena shook her head. “I can’t tell you,” she said.

“Then run with me,” Damian said, looking down the street. His eyes narrowed as he watched two sets of headlights approaching from the opposite side.

He took Lena by the shoulders, his piercing gaze locking onto hers. “I want you to stay behind me, do you understand?”

Something about the way he said it made Lena stop trembling. She looked at the man before her and, for the first time since she fled,

felt reassured. She stepped behind Damian as the black SUV kept driving alongside them.

Damian stood motionless in the middle of the street, his coat soaking wet from the heavy rain while Lena watched the frightened girl.

She expected him to demand answers, to press for more information about why she was being chased. Instead, he seemed to offer his help out of kindness.

That, more than anything, made Lena even more confused.

Another set of headlights drew closer, and Lena whispered, “They’re coming.”

Damian looked at her. “How many are there?”

“I don’t know,” she replied.

“Did they hurt you?” he asked.

Lena hesitated before answering. “Not yet.”

Damian’s jaw tightened as he watched the approaching cars. Then his eyes landed on Lena’s wrist, which was partially covered by her damp sleeve.

His expression shifted from concern to bewilderment as he looked at the tattooed symbol on her skin.

“Where did you get that?” he asked. “Your mother must have had something to do with this.”

Lena looked at his surprised. “My mother gave it to me.”

Damian looked at hi, then back at Lena. “Is she still alive? ena nodded. “She told me never to show it to anyone,” she added.

Damian looked at the tattoo again, his face showing a mix of emotions. Finally, he released Lena’s wrist and took a step back.

“That’s impossible,” he muttered.

Lena looked at him, confused. “What do you mean?”

Damian didn’t answer immediately. He looked past Lena at the dark street. The cars were getting closer. They pulled up alongside

them, and the men inside got out. One of them shouted, “Damian! Get away from the girl!”

Lena instinctively grabbed the back of Damian’s coat. He looked at the man who had shouted and then back at Lena. “She’s not who you think she is,” the man said.

“That’s where you’re wrong,” Damian replied.

The man hesitated before continuing. From the look on his face, Damian knew there was something else going on. Something connected Lena to him somehow.

Damian looked down at Lena’s tattoo again. The symbol was familiar to him; he had seen it before, etched onto the skin of a long-gone loved one.

It was a symbol that had haunted his dreams for years. His mother had disappeared when he was seventeen, and everyone told him that she had abandoned the family. But Damian never believed that.

In the end, it didn’t matter. His mother was still gone, and it was too late to change that.

Now, another mysterious woman wearing the same symbol stood before him. Was this coincidence or fate? Either way, the sight of her made something stir deep within.

“Who is your mother?” Damian asked.

Lena hesitated before answering. “Her name is Clara Carter.”

Damian blinked, surprised. “Clara…”

Lena looked at him. “You know her?”

“Actually,” Damian said slowly, “my mother had a friend named Clara.”

Lena’s voice softened as she spoke. “She used to tell me stories about a woman who saved her life.”

Damian looked at her intently. “Did she ever tell you her name?”

Lena shook her head. “She always called her… Anna.”

Damian took a step back. Anna was his mother’s name. For a long time, he had believed that she had disappeared on purpose

, that she wanted a new life for herself. But now, standing before Anna’s daughter, that theory didn’t seem so far-fetched, after all.

He looked back at Lena. “What did your mother say about her?”

Lena bit her lip. “She said that Anna was someone special to her.”

Damian’s expression hardened as he studied Lena’s face. “Did she happen to tell you what happened to her?” he asked.

Lena looked down at her hands. “She never told me much about it.”

Damian turned to the men who had chased them. “Tell me what you know about her.”

The man hesitated, looking over at Lena. “Her mother wasn’t just your mother’s friend. Your mother disappeared because she protected Clara.”

Lena covered her mouth in shock. Damian turned to the man. “Protected her from what?”

Nobody answered. Instead, the man looked back at Lena. “From the same people who are hunting her tonight.”

Lena looked at Damian, fear evident in her eyes.

Damian looked back at her, his expression unreadable. “That would explain why you ran from them.” He turned and looked back at the men. “They don’t know who she is, do they?”

The man shook his head. “No. But they were hired to take her.”

Lena looked up at Damian, searching his face. He looked back at her. “I want you to stay with me for a while,” he said.

“Why?” Lena asked.

“Because that symbol belonged to my mother.” Damian looked at the tattoo again. “She had one just like it.” His gaze met Lena’s. “Your mother knew mine.”

Lena looked shocked. “Your mother knew mine?”

Lena looked at him again. “What are you saying?” The rain poured down around them as the three black cars waited patiently.

Neither of them knew if the person standing nearby had the right to save the other. Neither of them knew if they were being hunted or if they would be saving the one who chased them.

Lesson

Sometimes the people we think are strangers may be connected to the deepest chapters of our past. Lena was abandoned by almost everyone she trusted, but one person she never expected became the first to protect her without asking for anything in return.
