The Billionaire Bought Every Loaf of Bread… Then He Saw the Necklace Around the Little Boy’s Neck

“The warm scent of fresh bread filled the cozy shop known as Maple Street Bakery. This small family owned business was a staple in the local community

where residents would gather every morning to purchase warm cinnamon rolls, sourdough, and pastries. It was a place where everyone knew each other by name

But that Tuesday evening, there was something different about the air.

Only a few loaves of bread remained in the bakery.

Ten year old Eli Parker pushed open the door to the shop, dampening his oversized hoodie from the cold Chicago rain. He pulled out a few coins from his worn-out sneakers as he made his way to the counter.

The elderly cashier, Mrs. Helen Carter, smiled brightly at the young boy.

“What can I get you for today, sweetheart? Eli cast his eyes downward

“Do you have any bread left from yesterday?

Mrs. Helen’s smile faded, as she realized what the boy was asking for.

Yesterday’s bread was practically given away for free

She nodded her head.

“I believe I have one loaf left in the back.”

As she turned around to retrieve the loaf of bread

a chair screeched across the wooden floorboards, causing everyone in the room to turn their heads

A tall man with an expensive black suit stood up from the corner booth, brushing off his tailored trousers. Adrian Vale was one of Chicago’s youngest

billionaires, often labeled as a genius in the financial world. Most people knew nothing about his personal life, aside from the occasional gossip rags.

He made his way to the counter, fixing his tie as he went.Pack all the loaves.”

Mrs. Helen’s eyes nearly popped out of her sockets. Sir, we only have ten left.”

“Pack all two hundred loaves,” Adrian replied, not breaking a sweat. The entire room grew silent as he fixed his gaze on the young boy standing near the entrance. He then took notice of the silver necklace dangling from Eli’s neck.

A small silver maple leaf charm hung from a thin silver chain.

His heart nearly stopped as he stared at the pendant.

“That’s my…”The boy stuttered, as he gently ran his fingers over the charm.”My mom gave it to me.”

Adrian’s face drained of all color as he pulled out a crumpled photograph from his breast pocket. He handed the picture to Eli as he looked on in utter shock

. In the photo, a young woman stood beside a lake, her long brown hair blowing in the wind. Eli’s eyes widened as he stared at the woman in the photo.

“That’s… that’s my mom,” he gasped, his voice almost robotic. Mrs. Helen’s eyes nearly fell out of her sockets as she looked from the young boy to Adrian.

“Her name was Sarah,” Adrian choked out, his voice trembling. As if sensing his unease, Eli turned around to face him.

“Sarah Parker,” the boy whispered.

Adrian’s heart stopped as he stared at the boy’s face. His eyes were wide with fear and something else he couldn’t quite place. If he had blinked, he would have missed the words etched on the back of the pendant.

Twenty-one years ago,

Sarah Parker had been the love of Adrian’s life. Before the multi-million dollar corporations, before the penthouse, before the private jet,

before the fame and fortune. Sarah had been the only woman he had ever loved. Together, they had dreamed of buying a little bakery in the quiet neighborhood. But then one day, she vanished. Her last letter to him simply stated

“Don’t search for me”

Adrian had searched relentlessly before deciding to move on with his life. He eventually gave up searching for her, although it had been an agonizing process

He turned to face the young boy, his eyes locked on the small silver pendant still in his hands.

“How old are you?” Adrian asked softly. Eli stared at him for a moment before answering.

“Ten

How old are you

Adrian’s heart pounded in his chest as he slowly counted the years pass in his head

He swallowed hard, his throat tightening. “Where is your mother now?”

Eli looked down at the pendant dangling from his neck. His small hands trembled as he pushed the silver chain back and forth between his fingers.

“I… I don’t know,” he whispered. “She disappeared six months ago. She told me if anything ever happened to her, I couldn’t sell this

Eli paused as his brown eyes met Adrian’s gaze. “She said I was to keep this pendant until the day she returned home.”

Adrian gently took the silver chain from Eli’s hands, his fingers brushing against the small maple leaf charm. He traced the engraved initials on the back of the pendant, his breathing hitching in his throat. A + S

His eyes welled up with tears as he stared down at the boy’s trembling form. Mrs. Helen carefully backed away, giving the two some privacy

Adrian purchased every single loaf of bread. However, instead of walking out the door with them, he asked the baker to give all of the loaves to

the families waiting in the cold evening air outside of the homeless shelter. As he looked back at Eli’s trembling frame, a sudden wave of guilt washed over him.

“Where’s your sister?” Adrian asked. Eli’s lips trembled as he pointed out the window, where a small group of people stood shivering in the frigid air.

An eight year old girl wearing a large coat waited patiently for what seemed like an eternity. As soon as she spotted Eli, her face lit up.

“Did you get the bread?” she asked. However, the smile quickly vanished from her face as she looked up at the street. Her chocolate eyes locked onto something across the street as she turned to look at Eli.

“Someone’s watching us,” Elena whispered, her voice barely a breath. All three turned their heads to see a sleek black luxury轿车 parked on the street, the engine still running.

The windows were completely dark, save for the occasional glimpse of a shadow passing behind the blinds. Slowly, the back passenger window slid down to reveal the face of a woman wearing oversized sunglasses. She looked directly at Adrian before switching her gaze to Eli.

Without another word, the woman slowly raised her finger to her lips, signaling for silence. The window rolled back up as the car pulled away

leaving the three stunned figures standing in the bakery entrance. Eli looked up at Adrian with wide eyes.

“Do you know her?”

Adrian said nothing, as the realization dawned on him. It wasn’t Sarah, it was Monica Reeves

the woman who had worked alongside Sarah the day she disappeared twenty-one years ago. The same Monica who had been questioned by

the police prior to her disappearance before the case was ultimately closed. She had been watching over Sarah’s children these past few years, making sure that they were safe.

He immediately called his private security detail as soon as the car left. Within moments, a handful of vehicles pulled up outside the bakery.

The detectives opened a new case file on Sarah Parker’s mysterious disappearance that very night. As they dug through the old case files, one of the detectives stumbled upon something interesting. Six months before her disappearance,

Sarah had secretly transferred all of her assets, including a small trust fund containing nearly twelve million dollars, to two unknown accounts.

After further digging, they found out it had gone to Eli and his younger sister Elena. Somehow, the documents had been hidden.

That night, Adrian invited Eli and his sister over for dinner. As the two small children got ready for bed, Eli quietly looked up at Adrian through his messy brown fringe.

“If I ever found the man who recognized this

Adrian chuckled sadly as he looked down at the small silver pendant still in his hand

“I promise you, we’ll find her.”

Just then, his手机rang, its screen displaying an unknown number. He hesitated before answering the call, only to hear complete silence on the other end. A moment later, a familiar voice whispered

“You finally found them…”

Adrian stared at the phone in his hand, frozen in place

because he had just heard Sarah Parker’s voice for the first time in twenty-one years.
